Parent & Tot is a learn to skate program for children under 5 years of age, with little or no skating experience, who have no badges/ribbons completed in the CanSkate program & who would like an adult on the ice with them. Skaters are introduced to the basics of skating in a fun, friendly manner. Session includes a short off-ice warm-up to further develop the skating fundamentals. Once skaters feel comfortable on the ice they will join the PreCanSkate group without their parent. Skaters progress directly into the main CanSkate program upon mastering the PreCanSkate skills. CSA approved hockey helmets are MANDATORY and face masks are highly recommended.
The family member registering with the child must be at least 16 years of age and complete the separate parent registration. Our goal is to introduce young skaters to the sport of skating in a fun and safe atmosphere, while helping them develop the confidence while learning the 8 basic skills required to ready them for the Pre-CanSkate CanSkate or CanPowerSkate program.
Who should join Parents & Tots:
- Children who are 2 to 4 years of age
- Children who require assistance to skate & would feel more comfortable with a person they know
I am a parent/guardian and I am unable to skate or do not want to participate, what are my options?
- Any family member can complete the parent registration and participate as long as they are at least 16 years of age and are able to skate.
- Your child may also register in the PRECANSKATE PROGRAM which does not include parent participation. We have trained program assistants who will be available to help your child.
